Polyamory - three (or more)-way RELATIONSHIPS - Hey Halfbaked,
We have been in a quad relationship for 2 1/2 years with another couple we met as Swingers. There have been ups and downs, but we are all happier than we have been in our whole lives and we are all closer and more in love with our spouses than ever before. I think it works so well because each marriage has been 20 years plus and the other wife and I(I'm the Mrs) are Bi and in love as well. I would just caution you when it comes to introducing your children into this type of blended family. We live within walking distance of our BF & GF, but have chosen not to disclose the full details of our "friendship" to our children(ages 8 & 15) because we feel that it is hard enough to grow up nowadays under the best of circumstances and other people can be cruel and judgmental. I would not want my child to suffer in any way because of my lifestyle choice. I am not against blending families, it is just not something we are willing to risk. My biggest piece of advice would be to listen to others' advice objectively, but only do what is right and best for YOU and YOUR loved ones because every relationship is different and different things work for different people. Hotel Check In - - Anyone who works in a hotel for more than a few months will see some pretty freaky shit. Swingers are probably kind of mild compared to some of the things that they encounter.
Is this one of your rules? What is it? is it fear? or something - Does everyone feel this way? - Don, I completely agree. I'm not suggesting "friends first" folks are wrong. I'm just explaining:
1. Why WE don't use that phrase...and folks often make offensive assumptions about us because we don't.
2. Why WE are always a bit uneasy about contacting couples who DO use that phrase.
FYI, around where we live, we have this whole "lifestyle clique" who run around protesting WAY too much about how friends is all that matters and they aren't in it for the sex at all, and labeling anyone who disagrees with them as "bedpost notchers." Mostly though, the way you get in their crosshairs is by telling one of them "no thanks." So this is a bit of a sore subject for us...as we DID tell a few of them "no thanks" and we aren't about to lie and say we didn't become swingers for the sexual aspects. Duh! LOL

All I was saying is that a few bad experiences can make people NEVER want to try something.
Also, there is the issue that if they are not really interested in it from square one, and there are a few bad experiences, the question people like that ask is "Why am I bothering?" Take our case for instance. We don't really desire for single males or females. Those we have played with in the past have come with baggage. So, why would we be interested in venturing into that territory? Baggage + lack of interest makes it a hard sell should some single male or female come looking.
