Obama's Roadtrip - -
Fair enough. Then why rely on them for anything that likely wasn't adequately studied?
Likely just does not do it for me...When the numbers are given AND shown how they were gathered, I tend to believe they are fairly accurate.
Let's take your Pepsi/Coke example. There is likely nothing befuddling about your scenario. Just one possibility: Where are the two Florida products bottled? Maybe it's the water.
Both bottled locally, it is chalked up to being a preferance thing. In WI, lived there for a while, it was called pop or soda, unless a VERY specific thing was needed, a Mountain Dew for instance. In the south, it is a Coke no matter what it is. If someone in the south offers a Coke, it could be Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Diet Rite, Sam's Club Soda, etc.
I'm glad you agree with the logic. My Bachelor's is in Social Welfare (Psych Minor). Human nature is only a bitch of a thing when you get out there a few standard deviations. The bulk of us are as predictable as rats.
Believe it or not, I have 2 BA's (econ and int. rel.) with a minor in social work. So I am very aware of social science standards and SOME believe that we're predictable. If you have a smaller sample, we are fairly predictable, especially when the sample is taken from a specific group of people (swingers for instance, better yet, swingers in a specific region), once you get to the larger populations (nationwide for instance), human behavior is not easily quantified. Try being the ONLY conservative in all the social work classes, it was fun! Then again, opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.
I propose that as an economist you are simply looking at things with a limited perspective.
Possibly, but I also have a rare ability to look at it from an outsider's view....
There is simply no question that if a person's basic needs (food and shelter) are met, there is less motivation to risk the consequences of violating societal rules.
I can see the logic of this, however, we are Americans, we always want MORE, we are constantly bombarded with images of MORE, we are constantly told that without MORE we are incomplete, etc. What are the consequences of violating societal rules? Food, shelter, clothing, TV, etc? Really tough there. Look at prisons in Mexico, if your family does not provide, you starve, more than likely. THAT is consequences, it is a deterrant (sp?). IMHO, one of the reasons for our increased crime rates is the lack of public punishment. If every time you turned around, you saw a group of people in black and white stripes mowing lawns, trimming trees, etc. on the side of the road in leg chains, it would cut crime considerably. If they did public executions, it would cut crime dramatically. Then again, I am a staunch supporter of heavy penalties for crimes, especially when they are repeat offenders, most of the social scientists are not. They want more rehab and such, which I also support, BUT only for first timers, not for repeat offenders. Anyway, I am thoroughly enjoying our debate... Next!

patriot or not - pledge - I've been reading, with some interest, the pontifications and protestations on the issues of this post. Some talk about morals some about duty some about apothy of people. I 'll ask: What is worals? Are swingers moral if society finds it averant? Is this country based on good Christian principals? Is this current government or administration trying to turn this country into a theocracy? This ccountry was founded so that everyone should have the right to live their life in their own manner, to be free to pursue whatever they wish so long as it does not interfere with others rights and liberties, and to be happy in those rights. As for religion, here I go again quoting the father of our constitution, Thomas Jefferson said; "I have recently been examining all known superstitions of the world, and do not find in our particular superstition (Christianity) one redeeming feature. They are all alike founded on fables and mythology." God's be damned, government be damned as well and if we do nothing to oppose bad government we are not patriotic, we are fools who will watch our country drown in it's own bile.. We can talk forever about what is and is not good but until we live what is good and moral, (morality is that principle which basically says "do no harm" like the doctors pledge) but until we apply true morality to our own lives and speak boldly to government which rules in fear and demogogery and to business which thinks that God is a dollar or a yen or any other form of currency, we will be be responsible for our own plight.... Just a thought or two... Since we do not study history or at least it's tennons we will be forced to repeat the mistakes made before....

Online donations - A new way for lifestyle clubs to collect donations - Call your charity "The care of swingers" Fund. You don't have to justify the charity, only show a user-base that is interested in donating. If you are the one "taking care", all proceeds can go to you, since you are the one providing/ensuring their care. The money can be used in any manner that coincides with "the care of swingers" to include your compensation for working toward the care of swingers. The beauty of it is, you can even file for tax exempt status, save the income portion that goes to you and your staff for their work. If a church can do it, so can you. -D-

Non - Mormon Social Group - Get Togethers And Travel - There are swingers who used to be active, participants in the LDS Church, that are so far removed from the belief and activity that you can swear, drink, and dress provocatively when you are around them, and maybe even kiss and rub up against them on a dance floor, with their consent, in public and they don't care who sees them, and it would surprise few if they did. We pretty much fall into that category of persons. That does not even begin to suggest that just because some of the people who might see them, would not be surprised, that they won't be judgmental and gossip about them. Basically, if you are looking to be able and go out and behave contrary to the rules and regulations of the LDS Church with out worrying about guarded behavior, and you are forming a group to facilitate the fun, then it might make sense to make it plain that your group is not planning on covering up anything, beyond that which must be covered up to avoid getting arrested. The real barrier to entry for a person still involved with the LDS faith, or any other faith would seem to be their own comfort zone. For those whose extended social circle, requires deeper discretion, most of us who don't worry much about that now, do remember when it seemed to matter way more to us too. It is okay if it will always matter to you. We all make our own choices in life. You are not alone, and yes we understand and respect you.

New Vibrator - - We wanted to share this link with all our fellow swingers out there, even those of you who just want to play online can even get in on the fun. This new toy will allow you to play with someone in the next room to around the world. The wife here just loves the idea of someone else being able to play with here even if they can't be with her in person. We would love to see this site pick up on it and maybe offer it to their members ....... well with that all said hope to see what happens with it. Here is the link http://www.sinulate.com/ Have fun and be Safe W & A

Calling on all the shutterbugs - Any hints & tips for newbies? - P.S. I used to own my own swingers magazine (YES, I'm THAT old.) and if you would like information about WHAT you should photograph for a swingers ad. I'd be glad to help you there. Swing

Odd pattern. - Why the interest/disinterest? - I'm not surprised to see mentions of homophobia and haste in filling out the profile as possible reasons; I hadn't thought of the male ego being so driven as to ignore disinterest from gay women. Yet that ego can't be reasoned w/ when the interested person's equipment matches the imagined ideal but the original birth certificate does not, even when reproduction is not on the table. As Terry pointed out above, every blastocyst starts out female and slightly less than half mutate into males as they become fetuses. AHARLEYCPL, not only is hate mail unwarranted, I'm personally pleased this discussion, for all its potential thorns, hasn't disintegrated into discriminatory ugliness like it would on some sites where the membership is more mainstream; I think it's b/c swingers already think outside the societal norms when it comes to expressing sexuality and have more of a 'live and let live if no one gets hurt' mentality. Being a swinger isn't about thoughtless sex, it's about even more thoughtful sex and this discussion shows that. :)

Anyone going to San Francisco? - - On a related, but different topic, I hear there are some great swingers clubs in SF! We've not yet been. Any personal experiences??

Age quesiton - Do swingers of the same age group swing together? - Age is not a factor for us! With her 34 and me 51 can be close to one but not both. If people are nice and want to have fun we say why not! R & J

Utah's healthy counter culture! - The thread on the bar scene is what got me to thinking about starting this thread. - The thread on the bar scene is what got me to thinking about starting this thread. I was looking at all the stuff people in my friends list posted today on Facebook and in thinking about these friends it became apparent that quite a few here in Utah, that are married have at some point in their lives together, either shared a girlfriend or had a few sexual encounters with other couples they have met and yet they do not affiliate with the swingers scene or really consider themselves swingers. Most of our non religious single friends have casual sex on an ongoing basis. Non monogamy is becoming more and more widely considered normal and acceptable. I know for a fact that a few of our young and super sexy crowd, that used to be more active here online mostly hook up with people that never had a online profile here or anywhere because they do not see why they need one. I am not sure if on a national level this is true but here in Utah with our thriving "I'm not part of the theocracy" counter culture it seems that hooking up in a manner usually associated with swinging happens a lot and does not require associating with the swing scene for it to happen. What are your thoughts?
