I am moving to Ft. Myers in 1 week and I still dont have a place to live. Does anyone know of any apartments with short term lease (4 months) that accepts dogs and is less than $800/month? I may also need a car and furniture. Is there a local place where everyone places classified ads, similar to craigslist, but more localized for Florida (we have ksl.com in utah where everyone posts more than craigslist, so I'm looking for something like that). Any other suggestions for a future floridian?

Try this link to a yahoo group that is like a craigs list. Once you join the group there may be links to very similar groups for Lee County.

Fort Myers earlier this year had the highest unemployed rate in the nation. Hope you have a job already lined up. Home values have dropped about 40% in the last 2 years, with lots of foreclosures. Some home owners are willing to rent short term just to help make ends meet. The Fort Myers News Press Classified has a lot of rentals listed, and they are on-line. I think you'll love living in SW Florida.
Is there anything wrong with Craigslist? I didn't know it was so out of style. As was listed above, you can try the local newspapers.
Living in FL is amazing. We have 9 months of sun and warm weather instead of the standard 6. I moved here in January a long time ago. Don't be freaked out by the people walking around in fleece jackets and jeans while you're running around in shorts and t-shirts. Give it a couple of years and you'll be wearing them the second the temperature dips below 70 too. Fort Meyers is a pretty area. Very laid back. When you're ready for some adult fun, c'mon up to Tampa.

Craigslist is local down there. MAGNETIC is right, after being laid off after 7+ years at my old job due to the economy, it was very difficult to find a new FULL time job that paid anything more than $8 an hour. I just moved AWAY from Fort Myers in June due to the unemployment rate, it's a tourist spot. I hope you have a job lined up...it's tough down there however it is beautiful in areas and the beach is nice (just don't go during spring break LOL). A bright spot is that they have a couple of swing clubs down there and quite a few swingers
Good luck in your move!

you can look me up if your interested once you get here. You have to go to the Beach and view a sunset depending on the beach the are tons of people there sipping wine and chillin out
Figures you would move halfway down the coast...
Can't help much with Ft Myers, but if you are needing help Tampa way more than willing.
