Based on data I've collected from hosting events, and from building the Swingular mobile app (BlackRingMobile.com), I can tell you that Swingular has roughly 500 couples who are active in the lifestyle at any given time (and trust me, anyone who's actively swinging has an account here).
Some studies indicate that as much as 4% of married adults are non-monogamous. That doesn't mean they swing, it simply means they have (at some point in their marriage) agreed that it would be okay to have sex outside of their marriage on at least one occasion. This number seems pretty high to me, especially in Utah. (Bordering on ridiculous, actually).
So somewhere between these two numbers is the truth... 500 couples in Utah have a Swingular account, and by some (very liberal) estimations, as many as 35,000 couples in Utah are non-monogamous.
Let's assume, for the sake of argument, that there are 3,000 couples in Utah who are actively interested in swinging. (Again, I have SERIOUS doubts that the number is that high, based on data I've collected from Swingular... but let's roll with it)... There are 886,000 couples in Utah, which means there's a 0.33% chance (1 in 300) that the couple you're looking at are swingers.
However, if the number of ACTIVE swinging couples in Utah is closer to 1,000 (far more likely), the odds go down to 0.11% (1 in 1,000). This is probably a more realistic picture of your odds when you try to pick up a random couple in the wild.
1 in a thousand isn't out of the question..... but unless you're prepared to be very blunt, it's probably not worth wasting your time on, either.

STD Testing - How often are you tested? - The only thing is that the test results are pretty much only good for the day they were done. Unless someone gets tested and then stays in a vault cut off from anyone else until the test results come back there is no way to determine if they are still STI free. Even accounting for incubation periods an STI test is really only good for that MOMENT when your blood was drawn. Bottom line if you're going to swing first be okay with the real and inherent risks and second protect yourself to the extent that you feel okay with those risks. We do our homework about what diseases are out there and then act appropriately. To us it only makes sense to assume that EVERYONE has an STD (most adults are seropositive for HSV type 1 or 2 which are now almost interchangeable as to where they can and will induce a primary infection) and to protect ourselves accordingly. People that are super paranoid about sex cooties prolly shouldn't be swingers. JMO
Not even going to mention how some VERY common STI's don't have a reliable test and thus aren't routinely screened for.

That's right... although "took the money and ran" still seems a bit harsh, considering I don't generate any sort of profit on our events. (Believe me, we debated long and hard about getting involved in an event that required a ticket... but... private venue means it's gotta be paid for). We have no interest in making money off the lifestyle community. Our only goal is to create fun events where people can easily meet others.
For the record, every time we've ever hosted an event, I come out in the red. This one will be no exception. I consider it my contribution to the lifestyle community.
More to the topic..... If someone wants to lie about their age to get into a Young Swingers party... there's nothing stopping them. Their likelihood of getting laid using that approach, however, is pretty close to zero. =)
