Looking for helpful advice on alcoholic drinks that actually taste good. We have tried several wines that were recommended as sweet or fruity and have hated them all. It seems that no matter what the price range is they all taste like overpriced cough syrup with a heavy alcohol taste. We are looking for various straight or mixed drinks that are actually good tasting. Alcohol type or brand is not our concern as long as it tastes good. Any suggestions, recipes or favorite mixes would be appreciated.
Key Lime Martini
The wife loves the moscatos. If your looking for a very sweet wine try any of the moscato d’asti’s
You can't hide the taste of alcohol. Most good tasting drinks dont have much alcohol. Some things are better then others. We like vodka, oj, and half and half. Or the apple whiskey is pretty smooth. Mostly just find a good chaser is more so the key then finding a good mixed drink. Bite the bullet and shoot them shots ;)

Stay away from wines if your just starting to drink. Try a Red's Apple Ale or a good mixed drink

Have a shot Captain Morgan parrot bay coconut flavored rum (90 Proof) and coke over ice.

Tastes just like Tigers Blood

Cheers🍹
Just keep it simple and cheap vodka and orange makes the best.
Voodoo juice 1 shot of passion fruit rum, spiced rum, pineapple rum, banana rum, coconut rum. A double jigger of orange juice, pineapple, cranberry juice. or just a full bottle of all of them. It tastes like a sobe but may leave you with a hangover.
We dont drink much but when we do (him really) its single malt scotch. Simple no mixer necessary. Of course if we play we only have minimal alcohol and we hope our partners feel the same.
Sweet tea Vodka and Lemonade! Called a John Daily and it tastes just like an Arnold Palmer but had a kick!
Irish whiskey with a bit of ice. Kilbeggan is great but hard to find in Utah. Jameson is good too. It’s an acquired taste but easily acquired.
Chivas regal 12 yrs old
Hibiscus Margaritas,,,, love them. Not a complaint with the parties.
Jack and diet is the wife’s favorite. Not sweet just fun!
A few off the top of my head and in no particular order...

Moscow Mule (especially if you like ginger beer)

Henry's Hard Soda

Barefoot Wines Spritzers- we like the Crisp White and the Rose' the best...or diy white wine spritzer

Tuaca and Rockstar

Lime Ricky- Henry's Hard Grape Soda (with or without a shot of lime vodka) and a twist of fresh lime

Scooby Snack- A shot made with, if memory serves, Midori and coconut rum

You can also go to a bar and just tell the bartender that you don't like the taste of alcohol and ask him/her what they recommend. Most are very knowledgeable and can usually make you something you'll like.

We have found the opposite to be true. Most bartenders in UT are terrible and with UT’s dumb laws making a drink with thebright ratios/balance is very difficult. But the other drinks Evil brings up sound pretty good.

We would encourage you to use google to find drink recipes that meet your palate.

In general vodka is one of the easiest to hide the taste but not all are equal and some will be like drinking gasoline. We did a big Vodka smack down (you’ll find this on google too) and we found that The brand “Sky” was the smoothest and had the least “flavor/taste”. It’s the easiest to hide in a drink.

We could make you a few drinks that you’d think are harmless punch and 3-4 drinks later you’ll be pretty buzzed. It’s all about the quality of ingredients and the right balance/ratios. Experiment with drinks at home. It’s way cheaper than the crap you’ll get at a bar and kinda fun.

Here’s one for you that we made up. We call it Tigersblood: muddle a strawberry in a shaker, squeeze half a lime over it. Add 1 oz of X-Rated Fusion (the pink one) 1/2 ounce of cruzan coconut rum or Malibu coconut. Shake over ice then strain into a glass and enjoy...you can add a splash of club soda or sprite to lighten it a little or add an ounce of Sky Vodka or more rum (plain or coconut) to make it harder. If you add more rum and muddle some mint and a splash of simple syrup and club soda and you have a tigersblood flavored mojito. Use real Cuban mojito mint, it does matter. Also the the X-rated fusion liquors have a low alcohol content and you can mix them with anything and it will be like punch. Too sweet for some palates.

For an easy drink just grab some friexnet sparkling wine/champagne or any other brute Cuvée and add a splash of (creme de mure) blackberry liqueur. Or any berry flavored drink for sweet or creme de cassis (black current) for a more tart finish. This is a basic old school drink called a kir royale.
X-rated fusions round in most state liquor stores in the flavored liqueur section.
Mrs. Delicious sometimes likes a drink called a "Sweet Tight Pussy"
Shot Glass sized or a cocktail size glass, depending on how much you want to feel it.
25% apple juice
25% melon liqueur
25% peach schnapps..
25% soda (7-Up or Sprite)

She also likes a Long Island iced tea.
WTF ....Is this JuniorHighSchool??

The Mrs doesn't like the taste of alcohol, but doesn't mind drinks with rum in it, says its a little sweeter. So maybe try a Mai Tai, mojito, rum and ginger beer, or rum and coke. For a vodka drink that is more subtle, try a Moscow Mule. Tequila can take a while to get used to, but once you do its awesome. I find whiskey a little bit stronger in the alcohol taste department.

Smartflirt is correct about the vodka, but I find Ciroc to be the smoothest, probably because it's made out of grapes unlike the other vodkas. And I think Grey Goose is also smooth. Titos is also good but I don't think it's as smooth.

Nope, it's a website for swingers and someone in our community doesn't like the taste of alcohol and asked for advice on which drinks they could try that they might enjoy. Per your profile, you're new to the area and perhaps don't yet comprehend how repressive the local culture is and how many of us grew up enduring YEARS of religious and cultural inculcation. Many here didn't grow up drinking alcohol and it's a relatively new experience for a lot of us.

I don't see their question as any less valid than someone asking what kind of condoms or lube people prefer or would recommend. I'm certain that there are some foods and/or drinks that you or others here don't find to your taste. Sorry that you feel the OP's questions are somehow juvenile. Or perhaps you were responding to the recommendations of those answering the OP?
Keep it simple and also try mixing in some type of fruit with it
Thank you to everyone for the helpful and positive comment. Evildoers, I'd like to especially thank you for ALL your comments.

Absolutely well said,,,
Just try everything. Seriously, everybody's tastebuds are different. Me? I hate all beer except for sours, I prefer ciders & wines. I love rum & coke, with about 3 ounces of 40% rum with 12 ounces of coke. I like a lot of scotches, hate some scotches, vodka and rum by itself is ok but doesn't taste great unless it's spiced, I like ouzo and kahlua and I'm a huge jaeger fan.

But none of those might be for you.

Point being: Your tastes are going to vary and you won't know for sure until you try a lot of different stuff. I would have some friends who have avariety of things and can give you some tastes of different things.

Exactly!
If you don't like the taste of alcohol, why are you drinking alcohol? If it's just to get fucked up then try meth.
Bourbon and diet. You can add as much courbon as you like and no one knows how strong it is, or isnt. I like us Jim Beam, myself but there are so many good bourbons. Try them all and decide for yourself.
My goto drink has always been a White Russian - with a little twist:

I make this drink with Chocolate Infused vodka - makes the whole drink taste like a good chocolate shake.
Angry balls - Angry orchard cider with a shot of fireball.
Evil... You make me wet. With all that wisdom
Whipped vodka mixed with Chocolate coconut milk.

Whiskey Sours
2oz whiskey, 1 squeezed lemon, top off with sour mix.

Why drink if it doesn’t taste good....
I rather enjoy slowly sipping one or two fingers of whiskey on a few ice cubes. Alcohol is an acquired taste. I am not into heavy drinking. I don't drink every day or even every week. Like most, I preferred a mixed drink at first. Mrs. Delicious still does. We both enjoy a good wine or a good beer. Few people enjoy straight liquor when they first start drinking, regardless of whether they started drinking in their twenties or later in life. Too much alcohol isn't healthy. Recent studies suggest that perhaps no amount of alcohol is actually healthy, but that's another discussion and there are conflicting view points. To compare alcohol with meth is kind of ridiculous. If someone's alcohol motivation is to get totally wasted, they are probably well beyond any concerns about how their drink taste. If you enjoy a reasonable level of relaxation and inhibition, that is associated with a reasonable amount of alcohol, and you would like the experience to include a pleasing flavor, and you want some advise, why not ask? We found this thread and some of the mixes shared interesting.

Coffee and Baileys, if you want more adventure add some vodka.
Depends on personal taste what are some flavors you like?
It truly depends on your palate. Also depends if you want food with your drink. For wines, it is either sweet and fruity or dry. For beer, the range goes from light or see through to more darker and hoppy flavors up to IPAs. For harder stuff, there is a huge plethora from just vodka with OJ to the dangerous Long Island ice tea.

Do you enjoy throwing drinks to your throat or sipping on something for a while?
Talk to a bartender and try stuff out. Or the most cost efficient way is on a cruise with a full drinking package. They won't cheap out on the booze and it is a full bar. Best part, if you don't like something, get something else.

If ever interested, let my wife and I know and we can go out and try stuff.
