When You're Shopping the Scene... - - Yeah, it'd be kinda cool if there actually WAS some kind of universal accessory or a signal that swingers could use to ID each other out in the vanilla world. And many have tried over the years but nothing has ever really caught on (back in the day, more than a few women wore necklaces of an apple with a bite out of it). And even if something DID actually catch on, and people wore it or whatever to identify other swingers, how long do you think it would take for the internet to make that fairly common knowledge?
We went to a swinger's convention in San Diego a number of years ago. The group had taken over the entire hotel and property and nobody was allowed in without a special wristband. It took about 4 hours for most of the hotel staff to learn what those wristbands meant. By the next day, people at nearby hotels, restaurants, and shopping centers had heard the news and as you passed people they would glance at you and then immediately glance down at your wrist. By that evening, most of the swingers were becoming so self-conscious that they were attempting to hide the wristbands beneath watches and bracelets. A few even pulled them off their wrists, if they were loose enough, and then put them back on when re-entering the property.
So, as nice as it would be to know for sure who other swingers are, it would kinda defeat the purpose of what many of us state in our profiles...that we're discreet. I suspect that about 10% (if even) would wear a black ring and about 90% wouldn't for fear of being outed as swingers. YMMV

Make it a point to attend as many meetings and functions as you can. Keep in mind that some poly people (some) turn their nose up at the idea of swinging, just as many swinging people turn their nose up at poly. Also don't be deterred if you start attending poly meetings and don't see the kind of people you normally hang out with, your tribe, so to speak. The benefit isn't finding your people as it is in meeting people with lots of experience with poly-relationships. You can learn from anyone who has been where you are heading.
Making up your own rules is great, so long as they work for you and your family.
Here in Utah there are circulating groups. We have swingers, poly, kinky, burners and in each group there are the core members (hardcore) and then there are those of us that circulate among them all. So, when attending meetings be aware that one day their might be four people, the next 40. Also that the opinions of the core members may not be representative of the life you three have created for yourselves and don't let anyone sway you from what you know works for you.

Swinging and LDS... - Are the two compatible? I know this is a huge can of worms... - We were talking to someone we thought was a "vanilla" friend last night. She has told us in the past how she is a total LDS member and "very religious", yet we just found out that she is and has been in the lifestyle for quite a while. We are a bit perplexed. While we are not LDS, we assume the church would frown on the lifestyle. Is this not the case? Or are LDS'rs living a "double life"? We all do to a certain extent, we don't advertise that we are swingers. But, to you who are active LDS members, how hard is to maintain while attending church? To those who are not and have dated LDS members, is it difficult to have poly relationships with members? What are some of the obstacles? We do like her very much.

OUCH - Anyone caught swinging bu family or friends? - On a boat a boat, fishing, with my boss and his wife when she starts asking Raychel about our swingers profile her daughter saw on the internet. Aside from all the obvious problems like why is their HS aged daughter cruising swinger profiles; the other daughter lives in boston and would not know us from anywhere; why are they talking to each other about this; and can I swim to shore.
